Using The Sketches

Sketches of Leadership are tools for bringing scripture to people in a way that engages their hearts and their minds. Visual images, color, and other design elements are intended to be pleasing to study participants, without being distracting. Tables and bulleted lists are meant to summarize and organize concepts that emerge from the scripture, not to impose a structure of insights on the scripture through alliteration or acronyms. Participants leave with clarity about the text and the topic, and motivation for application and change.

Student Pages

The first page of each Sketch contains one or more passages of Scripture that address the topic, with a couple of study questions that individual students can use to dig into the passage. The back page of each Bible study is where ideas that come out of the inductive discussion are further elaborated upon. For new leaders or leaders without many resources, these Bible study materials can be given out to students and used in a discussion together, whether in a one-to-one, small group, or large group context.

Leaders' Notes

Pages 3 and 4 in each Sketch are the leaders' notes, with fill-in blanks filled in with answers, and further leaders' notes on the passages and the paradigm added in red pixels. Not all the Leaders' notes comments need to be mentioned in every Bible study. The leader and study participants will have ideas questions from the text not covered in the notes. The notes are intended to help a leader become familiar with the passage, and to understand some of the textual points that are likely to come up, either as questions or as observations. Please do not feel burdened by the number of points in the leaders' notes material.

Customization

For experienced leaders, teachers, and trainers these Sketches can be seen as backup material, as a commentary might be, with ideas on the passages and topics discussed, that a leader may or may not want to use as a whole.  If you have PDF-editing ability, you are welcome to modify the material to fit your own context and specific leadership requirements.

Topical and Biblical Sequences

The Sketches of Leadership are modular and flexible and do not need to be delivered in any particular order, so an experienced trainer can use them in their own context with maximum flexibility. However, some sequences of Sketches have a logical progression and topical continuity.
